For National Women’s History Month, Laurel & Muse wants to honor inspiring women in fashion. These female entrepreneurs have helped women dress up and show up, no matter the occasion. There are hundreds of women who inspire us all, but here are a few of our favorite muses- yesterday, today and tomorrow. Who’s your favorite?
Yesterday - Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel’s designs have been a fashion mainstay for decades. Her “little black dress” epitomizes the Laurel and Muse motto: Simple, Adaptable, Timeless. Chanel’s chic but comfortable styles have freed women from cumbersome garments like the corset. In other words, she’s been helping us simplify for almost a century! Laurel and Muse’s little black handbag, with it’s day-to-night convertibility, was inspired by the classic and simple style of this timeless muse.
Today - Azede Jean-Pierre
This Haitian born designer has dressed fashion icons from Solange Knowles to Michelle Obama. Jean-Pierre says her aesthetic explores, “the line between fashion and art, femininity and edge.” Not only is this versatile designer a fashion trailblazer, but she also gives back in a major way. Jean-Pierre aims to help alleviate poverty by collaborating with marginalized designers in Haiti and other developing regions. Like Laurel and Muse, Jean-Pierre knows that true style means helping other women succeed.
Tomorrow - Isabella Springmühl
19-year-old Isabella Springmühl is a rising star who’s breaking all the rules. After being rejected from two fashion schools, the Guatemalan born teen didn’t give up on her dream. In 2016 she went on to be the first designer with Down’s Syndrome to show her work at London Fashion Week. Her styles are a wild and colorful take on tradition, but her main goal is simple: to design clothes that fit the unique bodies of women with Down’s Syndrome. Springmühl inspires us to never let any obstacle get in the way of our dreams.
Be Your Own Muse
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself.” - Coco Chanel
Each of these muses is boldly and fabulously herself! While all of our featured muses are fashion designers, they each inspire us in totally different ways. Laurel & Muse believes that every woman has the power to leave her mark by embracing her own unique gifts and talents. During Women’s History Month we remember that every woman has the power to be her own greatest muse.
